Biota360 • 2023 - 2025
Synbiote originated as an independent biomaterials discovery lab at the University of New South Wales. With the goal of investigating the potential of naturally occurring, bio-based materials to replace non-renewable materials in industrial applications, our research aimed to unlock the high-performance capabilities of biopolymers.
From our research, we spun out Biota360 - a biopolymer electrolyte for solid-state batteries.
Capitalising on the high ion conductivity of our biopolymers, Biota360 aimed to outcompete the conventional Lithium-ion liquid electrolytes with a solution that could double the energy density of batteries with zero fire risk, at a 500x cost advantage compared to the emerging solid electrolytes made from ceramic.
Synbiote’s research cycle wrapped up in 2025.
